Lots on my mind this week so I've decided to come back to the comforting embrace of a film where Batman's parents are murdered.
-
There are a lot of people being murdered in this film. Which is always a shame but especially when Superman is doing the murdering.
-
Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is unbearable. I always had a soft spot for Kevin Spacey's Luthor.
-
There are so many parallel subplots going on here. Russian crime, Kryptonite, whatever Lois is doing. I'm not sure I care about any.
-
Bruce Wayne can't keep himself from mansplaining. Even to Wonder Woman. Dick.
-
Now this Injustice-style sequence where Batman is a terrorist and Superman is a fascist leader. Now I'm into this film.
-
Oh, it's a dream.
-
Now even Batman is straight up murdering some dudes. Is Wonder Woman the real hero of this film? She hasn't murdered anyone yet.
-
Off sick so finally finishing off Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Tedium.
-
The problem with this film's interpretation of Batman is that Batman is compelling as a character /because/ of his One Rule.
-
If he's ready and willing to kill people without hesitation, then there's no contradiction of inner tension to his character.
-
Additionally, this interpretation of Batman is /too/ hung up on his parents' death.
-
Like Batman is always hung up on Crime Alley. But not so much so that he would let himself get distracted in the middle of the fight.
-
Snyder's Batman just gives up the fight and changes his mind about Superman because Superman reminds him of his parents' death. Nope.
-
Fundamentally, this ultraviolent and non-charming Batman is not someone I care about or want to see succeed. He's a dick.
-
This version of the funeral scene from Wrath of Khan is just making me angrier. Spock's emotional funeral was earned. This was not.
-
Following that, there's a scene with Jesse Eisenberg and quick violin music that made me think of The Double. Stop referencing better films.
