  1. Rewatched Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). It's... not as good as I remember.

A lot of the character beats in this film - bearing in mind that character stuff was the backbone of The Avengers (2012) - feel unearned in this film: Banner and Black Widow's relationship; Hawkeye's family; Quicksilver's redemption.

There's so much going on that major stuff like the creation of Vision, a fully autonomous, insanely OP, artificial lifeform, goes relatively uncommented upon. Even the films since haven't fleshed out Vision (so to speak) satisfactorily.

The pacing also feels monotonous with big action scenes coming regularly every 15-20 minutes. It just gets wearying by the time they return to Sokovia.

Compared to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) - another sequel to a big team superhero movie - Age of Ultron just falls flat. GotGv2 fleshes out the characters by building on the first film and does interesting new things within an existing framework.

GotGv2 also has a clear thematic throughline about family that runs through every plot and subplot. AoU is sort of about the responsibilities of creation and different meanings of protection but not really because none of those themes are consistently developed.
