      1. When I look at photo files on my phone using MTP on my PC, there's several hundred missing. Does MTP have a limit on no. of files displayed?

      I can see the files on the device but when connected via MTP to a PC (Ubuntu or Windows 7), all photos from 2015-08 to 2016-09 are missing.

    So it looks like it's an unacknowledged long-term bug in Android android.stackexchange.com/questions/46315/not-all-files-are-visible-over-mtp
