Some key points from my colleague @alittleroad's excellent piece responding to some of the doommongering about REF 2029's approach to open access monographs. There are already viable alternatives to BPCs and university leaders / library directors need to support community models. @alittleroad/1780864775230013618

In my view, the REF is A Bad Thing™ and its authoritarian language of "compliance" and "mandates" has done more harm than good for open access in the UK. But its approach to open access scholarly books isn't the end of the humanities and social sciences.

We can hate the REF and all its nonsense while not reflexively throwing out the baby with the bathwater with regards to opening up public access to scholarly works via open access book publishing. It is good to share our work openly!
