      1. DUNE: PART TWO: Villeneuve still has a certain Scottian coldness in tone and style but with the groundwork of the first film out of the way, he's free to focus on the characters (especially Chani) and the weightier themes of religion, coercion, control, and colonialism.

      It's got some weirdness for a Hollywood blockbuster—drug-induced visions, talking foetus, the Giedi Prime scenes (some of the best scenes in the film)—but Dune still demands more and it's a little dry without it. I won't be happy until I see a Guild Navigator on screen.

    For all the flaws of Lynch's DUNE, especially around tone, characterisation, and seeming lack of understanding that Paul is not a good guy, he at least brought the weirdness.

      Standout performances from Zendaya as Chani carrying the emotional weight of the film and Austin Butler who dominated every scene he's in with his pitch-perfect Stellan Skarsgård impression.
