      1. In the intermission for Steve McQueen and Bianca Stigter's OCCUPIED CITY. I'm finding it a quite meditative experience slowly reflecting on the layers of history and suffering in a place and the plague-like nature of creeping fascism.

      So much to mull over with McQueen's OCCUPIED CITY and not just because of it's almost five-hour running time. The slow cinema approach makes for a meditative experience that suddenly pulls you out of your reverie when the narration mentions another person murdered at Auschwitz.

    I'm sure the visual art approach to telling the story of a whole city will be offputting to a lot of people but I personally loved the skillful montage and the juxtaposition between the contemporary themes of Covid, climate justice, etc. and the archival voiceover.
