Yesterday morning I called to enquire about some NHS mental health services. By that afternoon, I had had a phone call discussing the issue and booked an appointment to start a therapy process. I cannot imagine I would have had that efficiency of service in England.

We pay a little extra tax in Scotland and in return we get public services that actually work. It's something I'm very happy to do.

I don't want to valorise Scotland or even NHS Scotland but everyone who lives in England should know that public services don't have to be the way they are there. It is a political choice and things are very different even as close as the other countries in the UK.

As a follow-up to this, I had a session on Monday introducing me to the service after which they put me on a waiting list. This morning I got a letter moving me off the waiting list and scheduling a therapy appointment for next week.
