Another nice Saturday, another long walk. Bathgate to Linlithgow via Cairnpapple Hill (312 m and the only Marilyn on this walk), Witch Craig (287 m), and Cockleroy (278 m). And @helensulis came with me today!
The main reason for today's walk was Cairnpapple Hill, a burial site of some significance with cairns and cremation pits dating back to 5000 BCE. We descended a ladder to see the cairns. There were also two Christian graves from a later period distinctively pointing east-west.
Witch Craig and Cockleroy however had amazing views across the Central Belt. We could see towards Edinburgh and Arthur's Seat, to the Forth bridges, to Stirling, and to Falkirk.
Also some very contemporary standing stones (the guy at Cairnpapple said these were about 20-30 years old: a present from a son to his father), this dome marked as 'Persephone's Temple' on Google Maps, and views of Linlithgow.
