Beeching was heavily influenced by the Conservative Government of the time who had a vested interest in road construction. His plans also depended on the Tories delivering a modernised and municipalised bus services which, being Tories, they didn't. Anyway, I just got 3/4 of my train tickets for last weekend refunded through Delay Repay because rail services in England are on their knees and our Westminster leaders are talking about closing Chinese schools and building additional unnecessary bathrooms.Permalink On Internet Archive
