  1. #NoReturn2022 Very much enjoyed the @BAFTSS_Horror Yellowjackets symposium yesterday: the first conference I've been to where I joined it in one country and was in another country by the time I presented.

#NoReturn2022 I presented on the representation of women's trauma through non-linear time and I was asked in the Q&A about the difference between that and films which depict men's trauma through flashbacks e.g. BATMAN BEGINS, MEMENTO, INCEPTION, the Bourne films.

#NoReturn2022 I gave some semi-coherent answer but after some time to reflect: there's a difference between texts /about/ trauma (Yellowjackets, JACKIE, SPENCER) and texts that instrumentalise trauma as a plot device for a character's (usually a man's) empowerment.

#NoReturn2022 The men in the films mentioned in the question do not experience trauma, they don't live with the impact: trauma gives them superpowers. Men are not shown suffering the negative impacts of trauma in the same way as women. Because of patriarchy in media.
