    I moved into first IT and now systems development on the Copim project because systems librarianship has been so narrowed to liaising with your vendor that it's sucked all the fun and experimentation out of the area.

      Certainly in the UK most library services are too risk-averse to even experiment around the edges of their LMS. Like, there is fun stuff to do around discovery, integration with e.g. Wikidata, working with publishers but there's neither staff nor political will to do any of it.
