    1. The Netflix app on our smart TV got a new 'play something random' feature so I tried it out with a new profile untainted by the algorithmic biases of mine or my wife's profiles.

      I've pressed the 'play something else' button about twenty times now and never gotten a movie. I don't know if that's because the feature will never return a movie or if the proportion of TV show episodes to movies on Netflix just makes that unlikely.

        Interestingly the randomiser then started looping through recommendations again. So it took me back to The Crown followed by Shadow & Bone follow by Peppa Pig etc.

          Conclusion: this 'play something else' feature isn't nearly as random as I thought even on a brand new fresh profile with no viewing history.
