          1. A thread of some of the work I've written this year: January 2020: A review of David Lynch's short film WHAT DID JACK DO? for @TAKEONECinema. As a huge Lynch fan, I was pleased to be able to review a Lynch film especially one about a monkey in a suit. takeonecinema.net/2020/what-did-jack-do/

February 2020: I happened to choose the most bizarre stuff to cover at the Glasgow Film Festival including a film about a teenager in the body of a T. rex and JESUS SHOWS YOU THE WAY TO THE HIGHWAY which was like a bizarre video game. takeonecinema.net/2020/jesus-shows-you-the-way-to-the-highway/

April 2020: It was disappointing that the first in-person film festival I was going to cover as press got moved online but I still enjoyed a few offerings from the BFI Flare LGBTIQ+ Film Festival. THE LAWYER was a beautifully observed film. takeonecinema.net/2020/the-lawyer/

June 2020: My writing focus this year was on finishing essays and a dissertation for my MA in Cultural and Critical Studies at Birkbeck. I was really pleased with this essay about the representation of time in relation to Black trauma in HBO's Watchmen. medium.com/@SimonXIX/assessed-essay-black-trauma-and-the-representation-of-time-in-watchmen-306aa6e373fa

July 2020: A feature for TAKE ONE about the trend for black-and-white re-releases of contemporary films like MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, LOGAN, and PARASITE. This compares cinema and video games since it was a topic I very much had on my mind at the time. takeonecinema.net/2020/grey-matters-black-and-white-re-releases/

Summer 2020: The bulk of my writing time this year went on my MA dissertation which looks at New Sincerity and the Weird in contemporary indie video games. Drawing on Mark Fisher and David Foster Wallace, I compare several cinematic texts with game texts. hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:32869/

October 2020: Rounding off the year, I covered several films at the BFI London Film Festival. My favourite review is my review of POSSESSOR where I feel like I tried something new in terms of style to capture the mood of the film. takeonecinema.net/2020/possessor/

Over November, I was busy with personal stuff, the stress of a second England lockdown, and working on a long article which hopefully will be out next year. Hoping that 2021 brings as many opportunities for cultural criticism and film reviewing as 2020 brought.
