SMALL AXE: RED, WHITE AND BLUE (now on BBC iPlayer): This film has an unfinished feel which in hindsight I really appreciate as it highlights the unfinished nature of what Leroy set out to do. McQueen very much recognises that the police are still institutionally racist.
You can't make a film that gives narrative closure to a Black character trying to reform the police in the '70s because the police are not reformed. RED, WHITE AND BLUE recognises that whereas BLACKKKLANSMAN, for example, did not.
