And this documentary goes into all of it. People openly call David Fincher an asshole. Fincher (notably absent as a talking-head) calls the studio 'morons' in behind-the-scenes footage. A real highlight is a sequence where they have H. R. Giger talking about the huge amount of incredible concept art he produced for this film (very little of which ends up in the final product) and they gradually fade him out and fade in producers saying it was all too much.Permalink On Internet Archive

Like JODOROWSKY'S DUNE, it really brings to light the movie that was never made. The long sequence of Vincent Ward explaining his original vision of a monastic order living on a wooden planet who treat the Xenomorph as a demon is an incredible insight.Permalink On Internet Archive

Fincher's original cinematographer sadly had to leave the shoot after a week or so due to Parkinson's and, though they talk around it, you can tell that Fincher didn't have nearly the same level of respect for his replacement.Permalink On Internet Archive
