        1. With everyone playing Ghost of Tsushima and having not yet played Sekiro, I had to decide if I wanted to play the Assassin's Creed of samurai games or the Dark Souls of samurai games. And the answer is always the Dark Souls version.

So far, Sekiro seems fairer and a lot more open with its mechanics than Dark Souls and even Bloodborne. The absence of a soul / blood echo retrieval mechanism annoyed me at first but it actually encourages a more liberating play-style.

I've also been playing Donkey Kong Country on the Switch to "relax" after Sekiro but I've found Sekiro a lot fairer and more generous with button-press timings. Donkey Kong Country's minecart levels are brutal.

Playing Sekiro has given me a strong urge to revisit Dark Souls. There is nothing in video games that matches the Blighttown > Sen's Fortress > Anor Londo chunk of that game.

Still trucking through Sekiro. After at least a dozen tries, I finally beat Guardian Ape and yelled "Fuck you!" loud enough to make the cat jump.

Demoralised by Corrupted Monk. I know her attacks but my attacks do so little Vitality damage to her that the fight feels like such a slog. It's testing my patience.

Naturally, right after complaining about this, I had a near-perfect run and finished her off. It takes a while to get good at each boss but it's so satisfying when you finally do.

The worst FromSoftware game is still so much better than the best title from other studios. That said, I'm struggling with how much boss duplication there seems to be in Sekiro. Like, I feel like I just defeated the Corrupted Monk and now I have to do it all over again?!
