This sentence in the Wikipedia article, 'Jack the Ripper suspects' (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Ripper_suspects) which suggest that authors accuse anyone they can rather than anyone they want had led to me accusing anyone I can think of who was alive in 1888 of being the Ripper.
