  1. 2019 was a fairly busy year so here's a thread of some of the most popular """pieces of content""" that I produced this year.

In this Medium piece, I looked into some adverts which are regularly misattributed to David Lynch and what that means for Surrealist film as a whole. I'd like to expand on this idea at some point because this feels underdeveloped medium.com/@SimonXIX/the-misattribution-of-david-lynch-and-the-categorisation-of-the-weird-a13f0149bdda

In this essay for my MA in Cultural and Critical Studies, I discuss what Jacques Rancière's thoughts on the process of critique mean for wider cultural conversations about art under capitalism and cultures of irony medium.com/@SimonXIX/assessed-essay-ranci%C3%A8re-critique-and-irony-7e85ebf7fa9b

This essay for my Contemporary American Cinema module explores the use of 'white voice' in films (BLACKKKLANSMAN and SORRY TO BOTHER YOU) and how different modes of representation convey racial trauma. medium.com/@SimonXIX/magical-realism-essay-954e1cf7c205

During the summer, @moananddrone and I presented at Open Repositories 2019 talking about the neoliberal co-opting of 'open culture' in academia and how openness can be framed as a practice rather than a set of licenses eprints.soas.ac.uk/31178/

Towards the end of the year, I started writing film reviews for @TAKEONECinema. There's a few reviews up on the site and I'm particularly proud of my first review for Lulu Wang's THE FAREWELL takeonecinema.net/2019/the-farewell/

I was also pleased with this review of Mark Jenkin's BAIT and the connections I saw between it and Surrealist cinema medium.com/@SimonXIX/bait-2019-2cbf72857ee3

And, with my partner @helensulisbowie, we've produced regular episodes of our comedy podcast, @YABUnreasonable. Too many good bits to name but fortunately we've put most of them in an easy-to-digest best-of compilation youtube.com/watch?v=v_GnNVNKWv8

This silly podcast that we started on a whim also managed to raise £450 with our Christmas live show for @Mermaids_Gender in aid of transgender children so that was pretty amazing youtube.com/watch?v=nzPHIVAdtmA

So it's exciting to see what 2020 brings. Hopefully more film reviews; I'm currently working on an MA essay exploring the representation of posthumanist subjectivity in video games (specifically Outer Wilds); and at some point this year I have a whole dissertation to write!
