        1. This week, I'm training for a certification in enterprise and solutions architecture. It's day four and open-source software has only been mentioned once in a derogatory sample exam question implying that software developers shouldn't use it and that it carries legal risk.

        Open-source software only contains legal or intellectual property risk if you misuse it or breach the licensing attached to it. But, hey, so does proprietary-licensed software. So to suggest that open-source is inherently riskier is just wrong.

      Other (wrong) answers to the question were: OSS can only be used on Linux operating systems; OSS can't be monetised; and OSS isn't recommended by major IT vendors. Those are all wrong answers but why put them out there for OSS in a way that you're not doing for proprietary?

    The trainer then went on to talk about his favourite example of open-source software: Adobe Reader. Neither Adobe Reader nor Adobe Acrobat are open-source licensed software products 🤦‍♂️
