I've been enjoying @hdtgppod podcast about bad video games as well as @historyrespawn podcast about representation of history in video games. It's noticeable that one of the only mediums where you can find video games taken seriously as cultural artefacts is podcasts.

Video games are not generally represented well or discussed seriously as part of culture in films or television or in mass media. There's a growing academic literature on video games and cultural studies but for entertaining but serious discussion, you have to turn to new media.

By which I mean, podcasts, YouTube, Twitch, etc. Traditional media fails to treat video games seriously and the gap is being filled by new media platforms.

Discussed video games and cultural studies with some of my MA colleagues yesterday: Ian Bogost's approach and his object-oriented ontology; Steven Johnson's emphasis on the value of video games; Michael Crowe's Perec-inspired meditation on GTA Online.
