  1. There's an interesting discussion around Chernobyl (2019) on Tumblr at the moment that gets at issues to do with the limits of fandom and the appropriateness of applying traditional fandom terminology to historical drama with the seriousness of Chernobyl.

      This post (narramin.tumblr.com/post/185407842747/chernobly-is-a-super-educational-and-fascianating) summarises it very well. Basically fans of the show are shipping the two lead characters despite the fact that Valery Legasov and Boris Shcherbina were real people who had families.

        The issue is that traditional fan terminology like 'shipping', 'headcanon', 'problematic', and 'fanfiction' all seem flippant and disrespectful when applied to a serious drama about a historical tragedy. Traditional expressions of fandom don't work in the context of Chernobyl.
