      1. It's interesting that retrospective reviews of Avengers: Infinity War (2018) are a lot harsher than they were when the film came out. Left is The AV Club; right is Polygon.

Now that the hype from that film has died down, we can all collectively admit it was bobbins. It makes me very suspicious of the ecstatic reviews that Avengers: Endgame (2019) is getting from the same media outlets.

Well, I'll be damned. Avengers: Endgame (2019) pulled it out of the bag. I have some reservations about the treatment of women characters in the film but goddamn if that wasn't an actually satisfying, balanced movie.

Keeping it vague because of spoilers but my reservations about Endgame are building up as I reflect on it. I still think it was narratively satisfying - which I wasn't convinced it would be after Infinity War - but it didn't do the things that I would have liked it to do.

I alluded to this yesterday immediately after the screening but it's easy for me, a straight white man, to find the film satisfying because... well, yeah.
